Thank you for visiting my professional website. If you are searching medical information please visit my medical resources page. I am also compiling a review of recommended pain products to help as a resource for over-the-counter products and devices.
I have a clinic open to new patients at the Queens Pain and Spine Center, with locations at both the Punchbowl and West Oahu locations. Please call 691-5390 for information.
I was born on Kauai, and attended Punahou. Following undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, my training took me to the University of Michigan for my medical degree and a Masters in clinical research, then to Stanford University for my anesthesiology residency and pain fellowship training. After serving on the clinical faculty at Stanford, I decided to return to Hawaii to raise my family and to serve the local community. I also practice anesthesiology and clinical informatics, which help inform my perioperative and technological aspects of medical practice.
My medical philosophy is to treat every patient as I would a family member. The art and science of medicine require a balance of knowledge and humility. I try to apply the most up-to-date scientific evidence while appreciating the complexity of each individual patient, especially in patients with chronic pain. I strongly believe in empowering patients with tools, treatments, and education necessary to be an active participant in their care. I ask a lot of questions whenever I go to my own doctors, and encourage you to ask questions.
I primarily offer non-opioid medication management and procedures such as steroid injections and medial branch blocks. I am particularly interested in peripheral nerve pain or nerve entrapments (such as post-surgical pain, sciatica, or complex regional pain syndrome).
I look forward to working together with you to help you achieve your goals.
Roy K Esaki, MD MS
