I have a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of nerve-related pain. This pain may feel like a tingling, electric sensation, often affecting a fairly specific area of your body. If you think of your nerves as electric wires, that wire can be damaged in a specific location–imagine some exposed wires in your wall sparking off where the insulation is frayed. We can do a series of injections to find out which nerve is affected. Depending on the type of nerve, we can treat it with medication, steroids, or radiofrequency energy to stun or burn the nerve. If these do not help, or if you have weakness, you may need surgery to relocate the nerve, or “decompress” it to give it some breathing room.
For more information, I taped a brief TV segment on nerve pain that you may find useful.
